YCS Lille (Yu-gi-oh Chanmpionship series); Aftermath thought; Is 40 Deck over-rated?
I take that most of you understand what I am talking about. Its a TCG event for Yu-Gi-Oh.
It just happend like two to three weeks ago, I will be citing some information from various bloogers from TCGs
Here are some facts and figures:
•Total amount of players: 828 (less than Bochum, but it’s the biggest French YCS)
•Card legality: Messed up like hell, because they were not allowed to play Hidden Arsenal 7. This news by itself already confirmed a win for Mermails.
•Rounds of swiss: 7 on Saturday, 3 on Sunday (10 total).
•All players with 15 or more points on Saturday could continue on Sunday (173, but several people dropped due to being unable to attend on Sunday).
•After 10 rounds of swiss, there was a top-32 cut-off. (This is like OMG, i played in World Championship before in Singapore; it was a 5 swiss and its very tiring. Salute to to them for going for this 10 swiss)
•8 players with 2 losses were unable to top (as usual too many players gives this disadvantage, best is to win all swiss)
Top 32 players and their decks
Duelist Deck (surprise surprise most are Mermails), littel mermaids everywhere.

Oliver Lukenda ;Fire Fist
Paolo Pacchiana ;Mermail
Robin Bachofner ;Mermail
Roman Kieser ;Mermail
Seb Moghim ;Mermail
Sergio Cavaliere ;Hieratic
Simon Hé ;Mermail
Stefan Batterbee ;Mermail
This resulted following top-16:
•10 x Mermail
•2 x Fire Fist
•2x Prophecy
•Frog Monarch
•Six Samurai
Top 8, this was reduced to:
•6x Mermail
•Fire Fist
•Prophecy
This is what we call a domination of on archtype deck; out of 8 positions, 6 is dominated by Mermails, obviously we should know who the champion deck is; Mermails. That is not all. Guess what
The victory goes to… a 53-card Mermail deck; played by Long Dao, Austria's representative.
The final was thus Mermail versus Memail, Paolo Pacchiani (Italy) Versus Long Dao (Austria). You can read the feature match here: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
yess!! You guys should be very very surprised...... usually we are binded by the rules of a 40 to 60 card deck. But majoity of us stick to 40-card deck. To us, we reasoned out with "consistency and high chance of drawing what you need"
When Pacchiana was about his Deck size and he replied “40″, Long Dao simply commented: “Too mainstream!”
Honestly I think Long Dao must be thinking " Screw this; 40 card deck is too small, I cannot fit in all my favourite cards. Time to break the limits. LIMIT BREAK!!!" He defended his decision to run a deck of more than 50 cards
Honestly, sometimes you have to try to go beyond the common norms you faced everyday. Even if it means doing something that seemed so awkward........... Or maybe it is just Mermails that can play a 50 plus card deck. Who knows?
In any case; this has being an eye-opener for me. what about you. Just check the link I put up and read for yourself

I've heard about over 40 card decks, while it is true that it is common and probably one of the best (You won't have that much chance of having dead draws), over 40 card decks are viable in my opinion so long as you can keep the dead-draws to good-draws ratio down. The whole point of 40 card decks is to cram everything so that you won't have much dead draws, if you can manage with a similar ratio with more cards, why not? The one important drawback is that those cards that you would put the maximum number of (Your "Key" cards) is harder to get.
